Frequently Asked Questions
These are some of the most commonly asked questions that I get about my family photography and portrait sessions. If you don't see the question or answer you're looking for, please don't hesitate to contact me and I'm happy to help you however I can.
- Q: What is your style?
-
A: Because I specialize in newborn, children and family portraiture my approach is easy going and fun. I feel like slightly posed and candid portraits both have a place in every portrait session. It's not uncommon for me to spend the first part of the session down on the floor playing with the kids. This helps break the ice and get through the staged "smile face" kids are trained to do when the camera is pulled out.
- Q: I know professional portraits are an investment for me and my family for many years to come. What is the average amount spent by your clients?
-
A: The average investment is $450 and goes up from there, although I have options for all budgets. I do offer payment plans and your portrait order will be placed once 50% of the total balance is collected, the remaining balance is due at pick up. The Baby's First Year Collection is a perfect baby gift that includes all session fees for newborn, 3 month, 6 month, 9 month and one year appointments, a framed collage panel or a coffee table book.
- Q: What do I need to do to secure an appointment with your studio?
-
A: You can schedule your session Tuesday-Saturday, I don't take portrait sessions on Sundays or Mondays.
Your session fee retainer secures your appointment time. I know things come up and am willing to work with you in the event you need to reschedule your appointment, but as a courtesy for my time and other clients, please give at least 48 hours notice when possible.
- Q: When should I schedule my newborn session?
-
A: As the demand for newborn sessions is very high you want to book it as soon as you know your due date. I highly recommend photographing them within 5-10 days of birth, this is imperative to get the sweet sleepy shots you see and love. After the two week point babies "wake up", are prone to baby acne and loose that sweet wrinkly newborn look.
- Q: What clothing do you recommend for portrait sessions?
-
A: It completely depends on the type of session, the age of the subjects and your personality. I recommend naked baby for newborn sessions as they are just so sweet this way.
For children's sessions think more timeless and vintage (i.e.-suspenders and page boy hats for gentlemen or/or blush pink dresses and dainty hair bows for little ladies). You want your wall portraits to have a timeless look and the right clothing can insure that.
For family sessions, complimentary color palettes and avoiding multiple patterns on different individuals will result in a cohesive, timeless portrait.
- Q: Can I bring my own props?
-
A: Absolutely!! There is nothing more sentimental than having a family heirloom, favorite lovey or doll, or blanket that grandma made for baby used in your session. Some other things that you may want to bring to your session are: hats and jewelry, those are the things that are usually forgotten. If you don't want to worry with the hassle of dragging along a ton of stuff I have, according to my husband, a hoarding problem for cute little things and am certain to have the perfect prop for your session.
- Q: Do you recommend a studio session or a location setting for my session?
-
A: This is where you really want the wall portrait to reflect your style and personality. I travel to multiple local parks, your home, the beach or my cozy home studio. No matter what, the end result will be fantastic!
- Q: Do you allow pets in your studio?
-
A: Without a doubt! Pets are a special part of your family too and are always welcome.
(Although I may have to draw the line at pet snakes!)
- Q: Do you offer gift certificates?
-
A: Yes, they can be purchased in any amount and I mail them directly to you or your loved one.
- Q: What are my options for displaying my portraits?
-
A: There are many options to display your final portraits. Just a few of the products that I offer are canvas gallery wrap wall portraits, custom albums, coffee table books, and solid sterling silver portrait jewelry. I sell digital files and watermarked images for use on Facebook after a minimum purchase. I also offer custom framing to compliment your final portrait. See the "boutique items" menu for a sampling of some of these finished products. I look forward to working together to create a final product that will best suit your needs.
